All drivers must present a full, valid driving licence and a valid identity card or passport. All drivers must have held their full licence for a minimum of one year.
Renters carrying a national driving licence from an EU member state (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden) or from Switzerland, United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Australia, Gibraltar, Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein do not require an International Driving Permit.
All national driving licences with Latin characters issued by the following countries are accepted in Greece: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Bahrain, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Central African Republic, Chile, Congo, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, North Macedonia, Georgia, Ghana, Guyana, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Ivory Coast, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Mexico, Moldova, Monaco, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Nigeria, Northern Ireland, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Qatar, Russia, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Serbia, Seychelles, South Africa, South Korea, Tajikistan, Thailand, Tunisia, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
Renters carrying a valid national driving licence that has been issued by a state in which no international driving licence is issued (i.e. China) require a certified translation in English or Greek.
For all other countries, a valid International Driving Permit is required along with the national driving licence. Renters are advised to check whether local authorities require foreign drivers to present an International Driving Permit to avoid the risk of potential fines.
